Accessibility
Campsite
We are working hard to ensure our campsite becomes accessible for all. As we introduce, replace, or alter aspects of the site we consciously include accessibility options.
On our site so far, we have the following:
Touring Pitches:
- All pitches are partial hardstanding, wheelchair friendly, and flat.
- Electric hook up points are located at the front of pitch for easy access.
- Our Elsan is raised to waist height suitable for wheelchair users.
- Grey waste is a raised drain with sloping sides to increase area water can fall into.
- We can assign pitches close to the toilet and shower blocks if required.
Tent Pitches:
- There are both electric and non-electric tent pitches all located on grass. This is usually firm however weather can mean they are not wheelchair friendly. Some Electric pitches and non-electric pitches run alongside a track and can be requested to make easier for wheelchair use.
- All tent pitches are level as is the whole site.
Lighting:
- We maintain low light pollution so lighting at night is only present on the facility blocks. The site is not lit up at night.
- The facilities have automatic lighting inside to turn on when entering.
Facilities
- All facilities have 24-hour access and are well lit at night externally. Interior lighting is activated upon entry.
- Doors are standard width with a slight lip upon entry.
- 2 bathrooms in the The Meadow are large to allow wheelchair users. They also have drop down arm handles at side of toilet. Entry is flat with a standard width door. Showers within these toilets are large however do have a step into them and therefore may not be suitable for all.
- In The Paddock facilities blocks there is a larger shower available in both ladies and gents that allows for wheelchair access.
- There are no assistance aids in The Paddock facilities block.
Staff
- Our friendly team are on hand to assist in any way they can. Pop into Reception or give them a call if we can help in anyway.
- All team members have had Disability Training and are aware not all disabilities can be seen.
- We support Neurodivergent guest and have neurodivergent staff.
Website
This website has been designed to be accessible to as many people as possible. If you have difficulty using our site please let us know and we will do our best to rectify this in future maintenance and development.
- All pages on this site comply with all priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- All pages on this site validate as HTML5.
- This site is built using structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main and section titles to aid users of screen reading software such as JAWS. For example, on this page, JAWS users can skip to the next section within the accessibility statement by pressing ALT+INSERT+2.
Navigation aids
- All pages have been authored to include Link Relationships to aid navigation in text-only browsers such as Lynx and graphical browsers that support this feature.
- This site has been coded to ensure a logical tab order through links and form elements. Keyboard navigation is possible via the TAB KEY on your keyboard. Alternatively Opera users can use the A KEY to navigate links and the TAB KEY to navigate form elements.
Visual design
- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used to control visual layout throughout this site.
- This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified ‘text size’ option in visual browsers. To display web page text larger or smaller go to the ‘View’ menu in your browser, point to Text Size, and then click the size you want (this may differ depending on browser vendor).
- If your browser or browsing device does not support Cascading Style Sheets, the content of this site will still be readable and usable.
Sustainability
At Pitch & Canvas, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable camping experience that respects and nurtures the natural beauty around us. Our commitment to the environment extends to every aspect of our operations, ensuring that we minimize our impact on the land, wildlife, and local communities.
We actively engage in practices that protect and enhance the environment. Here’s how we make a difference:
– **Wildlife-Friendly Practices: ** We continuously improve habitats to support bees, insects, birds, and other wildlife, fostering a thriving ecosystem. We have planted trees and installed bird and bat houses to encourage a natural environment.
– **Waste and Energy Reduction: ** We strive to minimize waste and energy use through thoughtful practices, including energy-efficient upgrades to our facilities.
– **Light Pollution Management: ** We carefully manage lighting to preserve the natural night sky, benefiting both wildlife and guests.
– **Recycling and Reuse: ** We encourage recycling and the reduction of materials wherever possible, with a strong emphasis on reusing resources.
– **Plastic-Free Initiatives: ** We have reduced single-use plastics and packaging, offering drinking water points for guests to refill bottles and reduce waste.
– **Eco-Friendly Materials: ** Our cleaning products and materials are chosen for their environmental benefits, ensuring a safer and greener stay for everyone. We now use recycled paper products where possible in the bathroom facilities.
– **Paperless Operations: ** We minimize our paper use and promote digital alternatives to reduce our carbon footprint.
– **Sustainable Travel: ** We encourage guests to explore car-free options such as public transport, walking, or cycling, enhancing their connection to the local environment. New foot stiles have been installed to link the campsite to the public footpath for ease of access.
– **Environmental Education: ** We offer opportunities for guests to learn about the natural surroundings, deepening their appreciation and understanding of the environment.
– **Supporting Local: ** We partner with local contractors and promote nearby businesses and attractions, contributing to the vitality of our community. The new foot path links enable guests to walk directly to local attractions and village.
– **Community Engagement:** We aim to be good neighbours, fostering positive relationships with the local community and making a lasting, positive impact.
By choosing to stay with us, you’re supporting our efforts to create a more sustainable world—one campsite at a time. We thank you for joining us in this journey and encourage you to embrace the natural beauty of Pitch & Canvas.
